How to summarize text with AI

  1. Type, paste or open your text.
  2. Choose Short, Key points or Detailed, and download an AI model once.
  3. Select Summarize, then copy or download the summary.

Long texts too

Texts longer than the model can read at once are summarized in parts, and the parts are then summarized together, so long reports and transcripts work.

Private by design

Board papers, research and personal notes are summarized by an open AI model inside your browser, never uploaded to a summarization service.

Questions about Summarizer

Is my text uploaded?

No. The AI model runs in your browser tab on your own device, using WebGPU. Only the model itself is downloaded, once, from Hugging Face; the text you work on never leaves the tab.

How big is the download, and which model should I choose?

Between about 0.9 and 3.4 GB, once; your browser keeps it for next time, and every AI tool uses the same model. Gemma 2 2B is a good balance. Llama 3.2 1B is the quickest on older devices, and Qwen 3 4B gives the best results on a computer with a recent graphics chip.

How long can the text be?

There is no fixed limit. Long texts take longer because they are summarized in parts on your device.

Which browsers work?

Browsers with WebGPU: current Chrome and Edge on Windows, macOS and ChromeOS, Safari 26 or later, and Chrome on recent Android phones. It runs faster on computers with more graphics memory.
