Frequently asked questions
Is Scissor Text really private?
Yes. Every tool runs inside your browser tab. What you type or paste stays in the tab's memory and is never sent anywhere: the site is static, has no upload endpoint, and its Content Security Policy stops the page from sending data to other servers. You can check this yourself in your browser's network panel.
Do the AI tools send my text to a server?
No. The AI grammar checker, translator, paraphraser and summarizer download an open language model to your browser once, then run it on your own device with WebGPU. Your text stays in the tab. Only the model files are downloaded, from Hugging Face, where the open models are published.
Does it work offline?
Yes. After your first visit the tools are stored by your browser, so they keep working without an internet connection.
Is it free? Do I need an account?
It is free, with no account and no length limit. Because the work happens on your own device, there is no server cost for us to recover.
Is my text saved?
No. Closing or reloading the tab clears it. When you pass a result to another tool with Continue with, it is handed over inside your browser and removed as soon as the next tool opens it.
Can I open a file?
Yes. Every tool opens plain text files such as .txt, .md, .csv, .json and source code, or you can drop a file onto the text box. The file is read by your browser and never uploaded.
